Letter from The Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, asking for members help in contributing to the public debate around plans for a smokefree generation

16 October 2023

BMFMS has received a letter from The Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, asking for members help in contributing to the public debate around plans for a smokefree generation. Please read the letter here.

Following the Prime Minister’s announcements last week on ending smoking for those 14 or under and moves to reduce children being marketed vapes.  Prof Witty says this opportunity to end the multiple health harms from addiction to smoking for future generations is something we need to seize.

The Government has launched a public consultation on the proposals. The consultation is open for 8 weeks and is UK-wide.

It is important that the views of health care professionals and the patients we serve are captured.
