BMFMS is one of the organisations supporting this new course, developed by Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundations Trust and hosted on the Future Learn platform.

  • Background to complex foetal and neonatal conditions where the outlook is uncertain, including congenital anomalies, as well as complications of pregnancy and delivery, and extreme prematurity.
  • Listening to parents who have a foetus or baby with an uncertain future or where the baby died.
  • Challenges of communication, both verbal and written, faced by healthcare professionals where the medical outcome for the baby is uncertain.
  • Good practice for healthcare professionals in communication and support with parents, and the challenges and opportunities presented when working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ethical challenges, parallel planning, memory making, advanced care plans, end-of-life care, hospice care, transition to paediatric services.
