- METERNAL: Maternal Critical Care Alliance
30 April 2026
Why a Maternal Critical Care Alliance?
Maternal critical care spans multiple teams, specialties and organisations, but has no single dedicated home. The Maternal Critical Care Alliance brings together women, families, staff and partner organisations. Together, we will work to improve how care is delivered when a woman becomes seriously unwell during or after pregnancy, and to support those affected by maternal critical illness.
Who We Are
The Alliance was founded by Deborah Horner and Steve Cantellow, NHS critical care consultants with a specialist interest in maternal critical care and extensive experience in national policy, education and innovation in this field. They are supported by trustees with expertise across clinical care, research, leadership and lived experience.
Launching in September 2026, subject to Charity Commission registration, we will bring together multidisciplinary colleagues from all specialties, women and their families to improve care for women who become critically unwell during and after pregnancy.
