UCL EGA Institute for Women’s Health Centre for Prenatal Therapy offers new open fetal surgery for spina bifida clinical service.

20 June 2018

Dear colleagues

We are very pleased to inform you of the launch of the UCL EGA Institute for Women’s Health Centre for Prenatal Therapy. Our UCLH/GOSH fetal surgery service for spina bifida is now able to receive referrals for surgery in London, which is being provided on a charitable funding basis from Great Ormond Street Hospital Childrens’s Charity and UCLH Charities.

The fetal spina bifida surgery team is led by Professor Jan Deprest and offers open fetal spina bifida repair according to the protocol used in established fetal surgery centres in the US, Belgium and Switzerland.

The criteria for referral to this service are identical to those used by NHS England in the established S2 funded route for continental European centres offering open fetal surgery.

Our patient information leaflet, referring centre information leaflet and postoperative pathway are all attached or available through our webpages:

Our fetal surgery team are available to present at regional or local Fetal Medicine Study days to disseminate about the service.

For queries or comments please email Dr Adalina Sacco, Fetal Surgery Fellow a.sacco@nhs.net.

Best wishes

Professor Anna David, Director of the UCL EGA Institute for Women’s Health
