This CSG is currently sponsored by the BMFMS
The RCOG Fetal Medicine CSG was establishes in 2009 to increase the amount of Fetal Medicine
research carried out in the UK. Although ~4% of all babies have some sort of fetal
abnormality only a small proportion of pregnancy research resources are dedicated to this
area of medicine.
The aims of the of the Fetal Medicine CSG are:
(1) Discuss, appraise and triage new clinical research ideas
(2) Provide RCOG and BMFMS support to those ideas that identify a knowledge deficit and
are achievable
(3) Improve fetal medicine collaboration nationally and increase participation in clinical
research in this area
Professor Zarko Alfirevic of the University of Liverpool has been Chair of the Fetal Medicine CSG since its inception.
The CSG has 27 clinical advisers and 8 executive members. Meetings are held every 3-4 months with a lot of work
being done using teleconferencing.
