Education and training

Education and training Group

The BMFMS has an education and training group which deals specifically with the large number of consultation requests we get from the RCOG and other bodies regarding training in feto-maternal medicine and high risk obstetrics. The group is currently chaired by Dr Dilly OC Anumba who is a Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology/Subspecialist in Fetomaternal Medicine and Senior Clinical Lecturer/Deputy Academic Training Programme Director for South Yorkshire. He has been chair of the group since April 2009.

The over-arching aim of the group is to formulate guidance on Education and Training (mainly postgraduate) issues in Obstetrics and Maternal and Fetal Medicine for the BMFMS.  Past work has included

  • writing the original ATSM curriculums in obstetrics on behalf of the RCOG
  • formulating the obstetric aspects of the RCOG workforce planning document.

Over the past 18 months the group has

  • Written the ATSM curriculums in Obstetrics on behalf of the RCOG.
  • Formulated recommended minimum content of ATSM courses for the RCOG.
  • Concluded a review of the curriculums for the 5 Obstetric ATSMs, informed by a nation-wide survey of trainees, trainers and preceptors, and heads of schools and training programme directors.
  • Looked at a system for formulating criteria for MFM subspecialty training centre recognition.

Work is generally carried out by a combination of Group meetings and email correspondence.  Other members of the group are Dr Tracey Johnston Dr Anna Kenyon , Dr Gerald Mason, Professor Fionnuala Mcauliffe, Dr Jenny Myers, Dr Paul Moran, Dr Hassan Shehata, Dr Myles Taylor, Dr Sarah Vause and Dr Jason Waugh
