BMFMS 2015

The QEII conference centre in the heart of Westminster, London, provided the venue for the 2015, 17th Annual Conference. This year we had over 600 delegates and feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

Key note speakers included Professor Jane Norman on the use of metformin in obese women in pregnancy and Dr Sarah Vause talking on 24/7 consultant presence: affordable, achievable, desirable?.

Hot topic sessions were replaced with Clinical Conundrum sessions which were very well received and covered diverse subjects such as management of a 34 week pregnant woman with platelets of 70 (Joanna Girling) and management of twins discordant for anencephaly (Ruwan Wimalasundera).

One of the highlights was the symposium entitled 'Fetal Growth - What is Normal, What is Impaired & How do we Test for it?'. Professor Jason Gardosi (Birmingham), Professor Gordon Smith (Cambridge) and ; Dr Aris Papageorghiou (Oxford) took varying stances on the issue of fetal growth and gave conference lots of food for thought.

The BMFMS society lecture was given by Bertie Leigh who talked about obstetric legal nightmares. This was a brilliant session on which to close the conference.

We are looking forward to seeing members at the 2016 conference which will be held in Birmingham at the ICC.
